The Best Spooky & Scary Podcasts for October

It's finally my favorite month of the year! Ahhhh!!!!! I'm obsessed with scary and spooky and creepy things all year round, and I feel like October is the one month of the year where it's actually kind of socially acceptable for me to talk about that stuff out loud :)

I've spent the entire year preparing for this month. I am a wealth of knowledge of all things scary. I've read all the books, watched all the shows and movies, and listened to all the podcasts. It's time for me to share all that "useless" knowledge!

Today, I'm going to list the top 5 podcasts you should listen to this October when you're in the mood for something creepy!!

By the way - the best way to listen to these podcasts? Turn off all the lights in your house, light some candles, grab a blanket and a friend/loved one/animal, and turn the podcast up nice and loud.

This is my go-to podcast when I want to feel completely and utterly terrified. The NoSleep podcast is well into its' 11th season, which means there are TONS of content for you to binge. I will say the episodes, for me, can be very hit or miss - some are fantastic and knock my socks off, while others are just so-so. Each episode features spooky original stories pulled from the popular NoSleep subreddit page. The stories are told by great voice actors, and often include eerie music and added sound effects. I don't really know what else to say except that this is my favorite thing to listen to every Halloween season! If you like scary stuff, this podcast is for you!!!

What makes this podcast the scariest of them all? It's true. This is the shockingly TRUE story of a Doctor who killed or maimed over 30 different patients, including one of his own friends. Yes, a real doctor working in a real hospital was able to do terrible things to countless patients, and no one did anything about it. It took me a while to work up the nerve to listen to this one - I had heard from multiple people that it was absolutely brutal. They weren't lyin'! Just be prepared to squirm in your seat, and maybe squeal out loud while you listen to this horrifying tale.

If you grew up in the 90's, this podcast should remind you of something. Remember that creepy, scary book that gave you nightmares as a child, called "Scaries Stories to Tell in the Dark?" Well, this is just like that. Chilling tales for the horror fanatic, told by a collection of talented voice actors. This one is along the same lines as the NoSleep Podcast, and another great one for the Halloween Season.

Oh. My. Goodness. This one gives me chills. This podcast uses something called "binaural audio" which basically means when you listen to it through your headphones, it sounds like you are listening to surround sound. Each story immerses you right into the middle of a recovered memory of someone who has recently died. The stories are scary, heart pounding, and sometimes gorey. You'll definitely recognize some of the voices in this podcast - like Denis O'Hare from American Horror Story, RuPaul, and Missi Pyle.

This podcast is so good that they've turned it into a TV show. We just watched the first season on Amazon Prime, and it was phenomenal. I was instantly hooked on this podcast since the first episode was about Rhode Island's own, Mercy Brown. Unlike the fictional stories of the NoSleep Podcast, Lore is about real life scary stories. Each episode explores the origins of dark stories and legends from the past. I learn so much from this podcast, even about subjects I thought I knew pretty well. Definitely worth a listen!

So, that's my list of favorites for the Halloween Season. Have a scary podcast to recommend? Please leave it in the comments below! I'm always looking for something new!
