Even Out Your Skin Tone... Without Foundation!

It's St. Patrick's Day weekend! This is definitely one of my favorite weekends of the year. Time for corned beef, cabbage, and lots of whiskey!

Before I go out and start my festivities though, I wanted to tell you all about my favorite skincare product on the planet. And, how fitting - it's GREEN! What a festive coincidence.

This is not a beauty blog, and I'm definitely not a makeup expert. However, as I've mentioned in previous posts, I've struggled with acne and terrible skin for quite a while. Luckily, I've managed to get my acne under control with vitamins (check out my posts on Hum Nutrition here and here.)

I hope you love the products I recommend! Just so you know, My Ocean State of Mind may collect a share of sales from the links on this page. However, this is not a sponsored post. This is my true and honest reccomendation!

Despite my acne-free skin, I still have a lot of redness and old acne scars. I no longer need a heavy duty foundation to cover everything up, but I do need to even out my skin tone before I head out the door in the morning. Enter: Dr. Jart Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment.

I found this miracle-worker about six months ago at Sephora, and I'm now on my second jar of it. A Sephora employee recommended it as a primer under foundation, and that's how I used it at first. As my skin continued to clear though, I was able to totally skip foundation all together.

Inside the heavy glass jar is a creamy mousse-like substance that is a light green color. I take a small amount out of the jar, and dot it around my skin, then smooth it over my entire face in a circular motion. As I blend it, the color of the cream changes from light green to the same color as my actual natural skin tone. It significantly reduces the redness on my skin, and completely evens everything out.

This stuff is also loaded with good-for-your skin ingredients like potassium and calcium, it protects your skin from environmental damage, and provides SPF 30 protection. Since I started using it, I've noticed a great improvement in my skin tone even without the lotion on. I'm hoping that as I continue to use it, it will just get better and better.

The price is steep ($52 for the 1.7 oz jar) but for the immediate difference it made in my skin tone, it was a no-brainer. I had to have this stuff.

Below is a before and after picture from this morning - you can see before how uneven my skin tone was, and you can really see the red acne scars. The second photo is not photoshopped! That's how nice and even my skin looks once I apply a thin coat of this treatment.

It's not as heavy a coverage as foundation, so you can still kind of see some of the more red spots. If I need to, I sometimes dot on some concealer over those spots, or under my eyes. A little powder over the top, and I'm good to go for the day! It now takes me 5 minutes or less to make my face presentable in the morning.

My ONE complaint about this treatment is that for people like me who are as pale as a ghost, it's slightly too dark. Pick out the palest foundation you can find at the drug store, and guess what? It's too dark for me. However, if you are even a hair less pale than I am, you probably won't have this problem. I think the product oxidizes on my skin as the day goes on, and the color becomes just a little darker than my natural tone. I'm ok with it though - it's better than wearing foundation, and it's also better than wearing nothing. I just make sure to add some of the treatment to my neck so I don't have a harsh line along my jaw.

So there you have it. This is my holy grail skin product- the one I couldn't go a day without. It has worked miracles for me, and I'm sure I'll be using it for years to come. Do you have a product like this in your life? Your daily go-to product that you swear by? Please tell me about it in the comments below!
