Spooky S'Mores Brownies

Ok, I'm a little bit late with this - Halloween is only two days away.   I just had to share! Everyone needs a go-to Halloween dessert to bring to parties.  It's got to be easy, portable, and adorable.  This recipe is all of those things, plus it's delicious!  

 

Spooky S'Mores Brownies 

 Serves: 16          Prep Time: 15 Minutes         Cook Time: 30 Minutes

 

Ingredients:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs

Pinch of salt

2 tbs sugar

Boxed Brownie Mix (and ingredients specified on back of box)

Ghost Peeps

Mini Chocolate Chips

 

Directions:  

  1. Preheat oven to 350.

  2. Combine melted butter, graham cracker crumbs, salt and sugar in a small bowl. 

  3. Spread mixture on the bottom of an 8x13 glass baking dish.  

  4. Bake for 10 minutes.  Meanwhile, mix together the ingredients for your brownies using the instructions on the back of your brownie box.  

  5. Remove dish with graham cracker base from oven, and top with your brownie batter. Return to oven and bake for time specified on the back of your brownie box.  

  6. Once brownies are fully baked, add a light layer of mini chocolate chips on top of brownies.  This will help keep your peeps in place!

  7. Place peeps in rows across brownies, and return to top rack of oven.  

  8. Broil your marshmallows but keep a close eye on them - they'll brown up very fast!

  9. Once browned to your liking, remove from oven and use mini chocolate chips to create new eyes and mouths (the existing ones will disappear after you broil the peeps.)

One thing to keep in mind:  the brownies may take a little longer to cook than the back of the box suggests.  The graham cracker crust seems to slow the baking down a bit - plan to leave them in a little longer than the directions say!  You'll know they are done when you can stick a toothpick in the center and have it come out clean.
